New research has revealed that arguments about parking, noise levels, blaring music and lack of privacy are common in most neighbourhoods. A third of folk admit they have had terrible rows with their neighbours – and 14 per cent have been forced to move house because of unresolved issues with next door. Eighteen per cent of homeowners go out of their way to avoid the neighbours, ducking behind cars and hiding indoors to avoid confrontation or conversation. The poll of 3,000 people, conducted by Cornhill Direct Home Insurance, revealed that 34 per cent wish they lived in an isolated position, away from the prying eyes of others.


Unsafe homes exposed
Despite the major gap between perceptions and reality about household security, almost nine in 10 (89 per cent) of those quizzed believe that homeowners that do take safety precautions seriously, such as fitting locks, alarms, and other measures should pay lower insurance premiums.
