Direct Line is taking the industry leading step of continuing to offer the 'Driving

Other Cars' cover as standard in its car insurance policies.

Many other insurers are removing this cover under the premise it increases uninsured
driving however Direct Line believes many motorists expect the cover to be offered
as standard and by removing it, insurers could inadvertently do the opposite and
exacerbate the uninsured driving problem.

DOC cover is provided for motorists to use other vehicles or to allow another motorist
to drive their car when they are in an emergency situation.



Homeowners to fork out
With only 4.3 per cent of households in the North West suffering the same problem. Nationwide, 62.2 per cent of homeowners take no action at all to protect their property. The most cautious were the Geordies with 53.6 per cent of families taking measures to defence their homes against the ravages of the cold weather.
