New research from DirectLineInsurance reveals that one in five (20 per cent) Brits don’t know that homeowners are responsible for gaining planning permission. Nearly one in five (18 per cent) found that their loft conversions were not approved, and five per cent garages or carports, after purchasing their home. Sods law costing millions.
Instances happen so regularly that a third (32 per cent) of those questioned for Home Response 24 – Direct Line’s 24-hour accident direct line mortgage emergency service – said their bad luck home emergency occurred within the last week. Many (29 per cent) are concerned their parents will hurt themselves while attempting to carry out the repairs themselves.
